2017 – 2018 National Student Scholarship Competition
TOPIC: “SERVICE TO OTHERS” – WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?
On February 8, 2018, we will be commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the sinking of the USAT DORCHESTER and the heroic sacrifice of the Four Chaplains. This will bring to mind the topic of service to others and the sacrifice that ordinary people make every day to ensure the safety and well-being of others. Therefore, the topic of the 2017-2018 National Student Scholarship Competition is “Service to Others – How can you express that in your life’s experiences thus far?”
Applicants: Use your creativity to express what “Service to Others” means to you based upon the information provided below. Through Art, Photography, an Essay, or a YouTube Video, applicants should describe or demonstrate in detail the meaning of Selfless Service to you. Tell us that story.
Your submittal should be able to define the following.
- Is the term “Selfless Service to Others” relevant in relation to you, our country and the Four Chaplains?
- How does this play a role in your everyday life and future goals?
- Do you feel that the Four Chaplains displayed this ideal during the sinking of the Dorchester and the ultimate sacrifice that they gave?
- With the 75th Anniversary of the sinking of the USAT Dorchester approaching in Feb. 2018, give some examples of how “Selfless Service to Others” helps our communities and our country to be a better place.
